To acknowledge the help and support given to bring scoliosis screenings to Big Island keiki, SHIFT Scoliosis is hosting a special event on Aug. 7.

Family and friends are invited to an afternoon of children’s activities, crafts and food from 1:30-4:30 p.m. at Ulu Laau, Waimea Nature Park behind the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope building.

The organization’s co-founder, Sami Petersen, is a 2014 Bakken Invitation Honoree. The 19-year-old student underwent spinal fusion surgery when she was 15 and co-founded SHIFT with her mother to eliminate the late diagnosis of scoliosis.
